October 12 Professional Development Day Activities

October 12 was our fall professional development day for faculty.  The teaching staff had a chance to have fun with Innovation Time and experience Maker Spacers with Littlebit kits, along with a fun team building exercise facilitated by Mr. Zygmunt.  PTA member Lisa Van Ness and the Vice-President of the Board of Education, Bridget Mauro, stopped in to join us.

Also on tap for the day, the teachers received further training on the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) from Beth Cutrer, M.ED, who serves as a Coach for Targeted Reading Intervention and is a professor at UNC-Chapel Hill, teaching literacy courses to pre-service educators.

We also hosted the NJ Physicians Advisory Group's Adolescent Health Conference in our building.  Several PE/Health teachers from districts throughout the Morris County area were in attendance.

It was a great day of learning for all!

1st Day for Teachers

Work Hard… Have fun… Be Kind… Make a difference…

What an incredible first day for teachers!  We worked collaboratively to build relationships, learned about "me" and "we," and began the process of developing a clear vision for our school.  Teamwork, Integrity, and Empowerment are the foundation as we create shared goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Based.  We learned that successful schools are inspiring, challenging, supportive, safe and healthy, engaged, respectful, and a community of learners.

A special "Thank You" to Patrick Fennell of Empowerment Solutions for facilitating this day of rejuvenation and inspiration for our learning community.  Also, thank you to Mrs. Mauro, school board member, for her participation and to Lakeland Bank for providing lunch.

Do Schools Kill Creativity?

Hello All!

As the summer rapidly comes to a close, it is with great pride and enthusiasm that I begin my first year school year as your new superintendent.  The summer has been a whirlwind of learning for me, while our support staff and custodians meticulously prepared the building for the opening of school.   I wanted to take this opportunity to thank and give accolades to all of our 12-month employees for the work they have accomplished in preparation for the 2015-2016 school year.  I observed the custodial staff, secretaries, computer tech, and administration complete a vast volume of tasks that would typically be completed by twice the amount of personnel in other school districts.  They are simply incredible, and the Mine Hill Community is so fortunate to have such dedicated and talented individuals managing the Canfield Elementary School.

I look forward to meeting everyone soon!  Please stop in anytime to say hello, or email any comments you may have regarding your school to  lnittel@minehillcas.org
